I used an 8 x 10 stretched (and primed) canvas. For the green and blue sections, I used Versamagic chalk ink and for the brown side, I used Choc. chip SU craft ink. The Versamagic worked the very best. No heat setting necessary, although I did just to make sure and it dried really fast. The craft ink seemed to take forever to dry with the heat gun. Water-based inks would not work, as this was treated canvas, they will stain the canvas, but mostly rub right off if moistened a bit.
Anyway, I used blue painters tape to tape off sections of the canvas and rubbed the ink pad directly to canvas. Once dry, I used the "At Home" Simply Scrappin kit paper with Modpodge on the paper and a bit directly on the canvas as well - it stuck really well. Since the stickers in the simply scrappin kits aren't really all that sticky, I also used modpodge to stick the stickers... they aren't going anywhere now! I used red-line/sticky strip to adhere the ribbon to the paper just on the ends and a few glue dots just to make it lie straight and flat. For the hearts, I clear embossed with Transendence embossing powder (love that stuff), and also used modpodge to stick the bottom two down, dimensionals to stick the last one down to give it a little dimension. Buttons already had glue dots and they seemed to stick just fine.
I used Tombo adhesive to adhere the pictures to the paper, but I used modpodge to adhere the paper to the canvas.
I made this as a gift for my MIL's 60th b-day... it has all of her grandchildren on there (mine are the top three : )
She can either hang it on the wall or put it on the table/desk. I will give her the plate holder too that I found at Target.
